Current champions St Dogmaels opened the new season in style with a well-worked win against arch rivals Cardigan.
After the home side had shaded the first half the Saints took the lead on the hour when Neil Evans slotted past opposing keeper and brother Kevin Evans. Cardigan came back strongly but having weathered the storm the visitors clinched the points ten minutes from the end when Johnny James beat the home defence to add his side’s second.
Lampeter also opened their season in style with a solid, all-round performance against Crannog who, to their credit battled hard throughout. After Mark Wilkins had opened the homesters account they were gifted a second when visiting captain Huw Reed back headed into his own net. Leigh Davies deservedly pulled one back for Crannog before home skipper Dai Morgan settled the issue with a late goal.
Last season’s Second Division champions Maesglas narrowly went down by the odd goal in three at New Quay for whom Chris Atkinson opened the scoring after fifteen minutes. Early in the second half Dai Cole notched a deserved equaliser for the visitors but five minutes from time Atkinson grabbed his second from a free kick to clinch the three points.
Visitors Aberaeron got their season off to a flying start with a nine goal drubbing of a poor Llandysul outfit. There were two goals each for Simon Bray, James Hemming, Gareth Severs and Jason Jones. Steffan Gruffudd netted the ninth from the penalty spot.
In the other two games played Llanybydder had a good 4 – 1 win against Dewi Stars whilst Aberporth just edged out Ffostrasol with a single goal victory in what turned out to be a closely fought encounter.
